ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Young Women’s Choral Projects of San Francisco is seeking applicants for its Choral Fellow Program beginning in the Fall 2018. The Program is designed to assist aspiring young conductors in developing “hands-on” experience and expertise in the art of choral conducting. The program is for one academic year. The Fellow will assist with weekly rehearsals and performances with our premiere Young Women’s Chorus, creating a positive, stimulating musical experience for our choristers. The YWCP Artistic Director will work closely with the Fellow to instruct him/her in conducting and the associated tasks and needs to be carried out throughout the rehearsal and performance period. This position is a yearlong internship. There is no salary associated with the position, or any fee or tuition expected of the applicant.
TIME FRAME
The candidate should attend YWCP regularly scheduled rehearsals, Wednesdays 6:30-9pm and/or Sundays, 3-6pm at First Unitarian Church, 1187 Franklin St. San Francisco, CA. The program is a yearlong commitment, September through June. Conference and planning times each week will be arranged with the Director, as necessary. Off-site rehearsals and performances will be scheduled, as needed. It is desired that the Fellow be available to attend the annual retreat the first weekend of February.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Fellow will assist the Director in the following areas:
• Rehearsing standard choral, classical, contemporary and folk repertoire
• Demonstrating good vocal technique to choristers
• Instructing choristers in solid sight-singing skills
• Supporting and promoting the purpose and goals of the Young Women’s Choral Projects
• Encouraging and inspiring choristers to challenge themselves for optimum growth and success
• Taking role and calling missing choristers during each rehearsal of the Young Women’s Chorus
• Helping with
setting up rehearsal space and other small administrative duties
• Other tasks as defined by the YWC Director
OPPORTUNITIES

• To work with an advanced young women’s chorus
• To learn new choral repertoire in many styles
• To learn other administrative skills needed for the profession
