Trinity Lutheran Church is a Christian, Reconciled in Christ congregation with a strong musical tradition, located in Alameda, CA. Our Music Ministry includes a thriving program with an adult choir, bell choir and a tuition-free children’s choir program, open to the community. Music is central to our mission of giving back to the community. Trinity’s Music Ministry is supported with a budget for purchasing music, hiring instrumentalists, maintaining instruments and other related costs.
The Director of Music Ministry furthers the mission of the church by:
planning and implementing vibrant and meaningful musical offerings, in a variety of styles, that glorify God
reflecting Trinity’s inclusive nature, nurturing the spiritual development of the congregation and reaching out into the community.
Engaging children and adults of all abilities
Responsibilities:
Prepare and direct the choir and bell choir to provide musical offerings during our weekly worship services, September through May, displaying a commitment to musical excellence.
Organize and direct the Joyful Noise Community Children’s Choir program
Work collaboratively with Pastor, Organist/Pianist and Worship and Music Committee to create a cohesive worship experience.
Incorporate instrumental musicians to enhance musical offerings, when appropriate.
Recruit new participants for choir and bell choir.
Engage the community-at-large with special musical events.
Work collaboratively with church committees to connect the music ministry to Trinity’s larger mission.
Incorporate children and youth into congregation’s musical activities.
Ensure coordination of special musical offerings June through August, and other weeks that the choir is off.
Skills and Experience Required:
Choral conducting experience for both youth and adult choirs; 5 years preferred
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers
Understanding of sacred music and its use within liturgy and worship
Ability to lead with enthusiasm, a sense of humor and a positive attitude
Degree in music is preferred
Background and fingerprint checks will be required of any candidate that is selected, in keeping with our child abuse prevention policy
Compensation:
Hours: 8 hours per week based on 44 weeks per year; salaried,part-time, non-exempt
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
Benefits:
Trinity pays workers compensation but does not provide health benefits.
Two floating weeks with no rehearsals or Sunday services per year (Sept-May).
No anthems or rehearsals the week after Christmas, the week after Easter.
Responsible to the Pastor and the Church Council.

Create and monitor Music & Worship Budget
Provide written updates to the Church Council and articles for church newsletter
Annually
Plan and direct two special Music Ministry Sunday worship services
Fall and Spring Concert
Coordinate musical offerings for Advent and Lent, as needed.
