Ragazzi Boys Chorus, Primary Group Conductor

Ragazzi Boys Chorus is seeking a new conductor for our entry level chorus, Primary Group (ages 7 to 10, usually), beginning in September 2019. Regular rehearsals are held on Tuesdays from 5:30-7:20 p.m. Included are two major Saturday recitals per year, one in December and one in June with preceding dress rehearsals. In addition, although Primary Group is not ordinarliy considered a performance-level chorus, there are occasional community performances for groups specifically requesting our youngest singers.

All members of the chorus attend two Singing Saturday rehearsals per year, one in the fall (late October/early November) and one in the spring (usually early May). These are held from 9:30 a.m.-12 noon.

The Primary Group director designs the curriculum and conducts all rehearsals and performances for the group. The director oversees boys’ fulfillment of promotion requirements including their progress through the Ragazzi theory program as separately taught by the Theory Director. In addition, the director:

    • oversees the boys’ progress in musicianship

    • communicates with parents about boys’ educational and musical needs; parents will especially need to remain informed about their boy’s status in regard to promotion requirements (see Chorus Handbook)

    • tracks attendance and informs/reminds parents of the requirements for rehearsal attendance

    • writes individual evaluations in December and June and for those boys attending the optional Primary level summer camp, in late July/August - evaluations will address issues of vocal development, attendance, and musicianship (includes theory, sight-singing, independent part-holding)

(Note: summer overnight camp is held during the last week of July and the 2 to 3 Primary Directors alternate years going to camp.)

    • attends occasional faculty meetings throughout the year

A degree in music or music education is required, Kodaly certification is preferred. Experience teaching music to young children is also required. Salary is commensurate with that of other local children’s choruses with similar programs.

Interested candidates should submit a resume to:
