Position Description

Plans and teaches a balanced band program including all contemporary band instruments for students in the upper elementary grades. Teacher is responsible for music education of pupils at the elementary and middle school level, and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction. Helps pupils grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which may include singing, moving to music, playing of instruments and listening and performs other duties directly related to this job description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Recruits students to receive instruction in playing standard band and orchestra instruments

2. Organizes daily class instruction for regular teaching and assessment, as well as performance preparations to be accomplished within the allotted time.

3. Teaches knowledge and skills in the field of music, which may include general, instrumental or choral music to primary students utilizing the appropriate developmental lessons and curriculum.

4. Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt curriculum to the needs of the students with varying intellectual abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.

5. Provides instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about music

6. Maintains an organized storage area and proper inventory control to prevent loss or damages.

7. Facilitates minor instrument repairs and requests professional services for repairs when necessary.

8. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior required to provide an orderly and productive environment

9. Instructs students in proper care and use of instruments and equipment, organizes storage areas and controls use of materials and instruments to prevent loss or abuse

10. Evaluates each student's performance and growth in knowledge and understanding and prepares progress reports

11. Organizes and prepares students for multiple performances yearly.

12. Communicates with local high schools to transition students to high school program.

13. Selects and requisitions instructional materials, books, etc., and maintains inventory records

14. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and/or in self-selected professional growth activities

15. Communicates with parents on student progress

16. Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities

17. Participates in faculty and/or District committees and the sponsorship of student activities

CREDENTIAL:

● Valid California Credential with license authorizing instruction in Music.

● Must provide subject matter competency in Music, or proof of Music Major through transcripts.

● Valid English Learner Certification

● Verification of NCLB Highly Qualified compliance

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree, including all courses to meet credential requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

Contract Days: 182 Days

Salary Schedule placement based upon experience and credentials. Ranges from $49,500-$96,800.
